Update on booklet
Thank you so much to everyone who has already contributed to this blog and the book for Ann Tickner. The book turned out beautifully! It was given to Ann at ISA in 2008, and she very much appreciated it. Thanks to all of you for making it possible!
This blog is now primarily a piece of history. However, I will add to it, if people contact with me with requests to do so (as occurred in August 2009). Thanks again to all who contributed.

Just waiting in Dr. Alker's office, looking at the books that covered the walls I was introduced to exciting theoretical approaches that were never covered elsewhere. His advice as a member of my dissertation committee was even more helpful. His direct critiques and vast knowledge of many literatures helped me complete the complex ideas that I was struggling with. When it was finished, he continued to support my work by encouraging me to write the book that I now have in press. Few other professors are as committed to educating and advancing the careers of their students.
I took only one class with Hayward Alker. It was an advanced methodology class I knew nothing about, I had to start from scratch. If there is only one thing I will always remember about Prof. Alker, it is his endless patience towards his students and his deep passion for learning and teaching. It was impossible not to be inspired by his energy, his sense of responsibility towards humanity and his knowledge of the "tools" of making sense of the world. In our first class, I did not understand what was going on, I did not know the terms my colleagues were using and frankly, I even considered dropping the class. A couple of months later, I was defending a full-fledged research proposal using those once complicated research techniques, all thanks to long conversations with Prof. Alker, his recommendations, guidance and tolerance. The transformation was not only academic, but also on a personal level. Working with Hayward Alker even for a short period of time, changed me co
nsiderably. Prof. Alker is a part of us and we are reminded of him in each spark of passion for learning we experience everyday.
